Pins 1.10 for iOS has started rolling out. Expect to see Pins 1.10 for macOS in the next few days.
Discover Widget
You can now use the new “Discover” widget to view public bookmarks from other people similar to the way you can explore them in the app. Supported communities are Popular/Recents/Wikipedia/Fandom/Japanese.

Smaller Thumbnails
Some have been asking for an option to make the thumbnails smaller. It’s a helpful setting especially for those on a smaller devices.
Adding some oft-requested QoL improvements to the next update:

New Theme Colors
Two neutral colors have been added: brown and gray.
One More Thing
On Twitter, I shared some tips for utilizing the “Explore” tool in Pins.
Have you tried Pins’ “Explore” tool? It lets you view public bookmarks from any user or tagged with any tag. These can be saved as “channels” in collection list.

I use this to keep track of certain tags and view others’ bookmarks without actually having to “subscribe” to them. pic.twitter.com/tZI51uvTWa
This Explore tool is powered by Pinboard’s no-nonsense RSS support which is exceedingly rare these days.

By default Pins loads 100 most recent items from the feed on demand. pic.twitter.com/8Y9ZW0wwsN
Once saved as a channel, you can use the “Subscribe to RSS” button if you want to read the items in a proper RSS reader. Think cached articles, notifications, widgets, etc.

(Some RSS readers I personally recommend: Reeder, NetNewsWire, Unread, NewsBlur) pic.twitter.com/RJqlVd0z02
Anyway just now I realize that I didn’t sanitize any input in the Explore screen (not that it’s necessary). This leads to 2 unintended “features”:
— Pins for Pinboard (@GetPinsApp) October 16, 2021
- View bookmarks with certain tags from any user
- View bookmarks with up to 3 given tags
Give this a try! pic.twitter.com/rvJerCW5NP
